Large sand casting

The presence of a pattern is the first step in large sand casting. A pattern is actually a template or a duplicate of the metal part that you intend to make. This can be fabricated from wood, plastic or even the material itself. When the pattern is completed, LF iron sand casting is used to create a sand mold. The mold is broken up into two parts that perfectly fit together to create a cavity the same exact shape of the finished metal piece you are trying to produce. This is one of the critical step that ensures the correct shape of metal part after it completed.

From molten metal to intricately detailed molds

Once the metal is poured into the mold, it cools down rapidly. The metal melts and fills the cavity of the mold, then solidifies as it cools. After the metal cools down and hardens, the sand mold is cracked. This shows the resulting metal part that was made inside. In this shot, after you have stripped the mold that is completed, now your component need a tiny cleanup and also some final touches to allow it to be read for usage. This can mean anything from sanding or external polishing.
