Crafting Sand Cast Iron Masterpieces

Sand Cast Iron is the old method of preparing metal things. Lots of people have been at this for a long, long time, long before most of us were born! The first step is to create a mold with sand. Sand is tightly packed to form a mold that represents the shape of the object to be created. It is similar to carving in the sand at a beach, instead of carving a castle you are carving a shape you want the metal to take. Once the sand mold is prepared, it is heated to harden it for the next stages. Afterwards, molten iron is cast in the mold. When the iron has cooled the sand is removed to reveal the cast iron body which is now ready for use. Sand Cast Iron objects are not easy however they sure are fun to make! It starts with an expert — a master in the field — developing a mold of the object. This gray cast iron design is like a prototype display that alludes how the final object exactly will look. The expert puts this pattern in the sand for packing to get the mold. The subsequent step is heating the mold so that it can bear the heavy heat of the pouring iron. After dumping the iron into the mold, it's all left to cool. The sand mold is then carefully removed to unveil the shiny cast iron piece within, which can serve a variety of functions.
