Cast iron is ductile

Well I hope you do, because it is a special kind of metal and it is used for many things like pipes and things for engines and other important things are made of cast iron. While LF ductile cast iron is really famous for its strength, did you know that it has a little give too? And this is what we refer to as ductility — an interesting property to have when working with cast iron!

But before we get into the versatility of flexible cast iron, let’s first look at its strength. Cast iron is strong due to the presence of carbon in it. The unique element leaving carbon assists hardening the metal, which is very important for the durability of the items produced. For instance, brake discs produced from cast iron are suspension components found in all vehicles, while engine blocks that power our vehicles are found in most brands of cars.

Cast iron's surprising strength

It's also tough, as cast iron can withstand quite a lot of wear and tear. This is why cast iron is beloved for kitchen utensils, such as pots and pans. LF cast iron casting cookware are well known for being near indestructible and for being great at retaining heat. That is why so many chefs and at-home cooks swear by cast iron because it cooks evenly and retains heat.

So, we know that cast iron is incredibly strong. But it can also be flexible. Due to the method of production, cast iron can further bend than what you might look for. It is made up of tiny pieces of iron and carbon known as grains. These grains coexist, and they are held together by a matrix of iron that gives metal its strength.
